PupProtector Throw The PupProtector Throw isn't a dog bed as such, but it will give you peace of mind, as it offers a waterproof surface that's perfect for protecting your couch, armchairs, or bed. You can throw it in the washing machine when it needs refreshing, and there are several fun colors and patterns to select from, including animal prints. paw.com

L.L.Bean Protective Liner You can safeguard your standard pet bed with the L.L.Bean Protective Liner, a TPU and polyester option that guards its contents against accidents. Available in four sizes, it pairs well with the company's line of dog beds, as well as with those from other manufacturers. llbean.com

Janery Custom If you happen to have an odd-sized pet bed that your dog loves, but it isn't made to repel water, the Janery Custom will give you the protection that you need. There are two shapes to choose from, box cushion and pillow, but no matter which you choose, it's sized to your specifications for a hassle-free fit. etsy.com

Editor's Notes

May 12, 2020:

A waterproof dog bed can keep your pup from slumbering in a puddle of piddle, but keep in mind that most aren't made for an extended soaking. You'll want to clean up any accidents as soon as possible, in other words, to prevent long-lasting damage. With that said, we still think the PLS Pet Paradise and the Milliard Anti-Microbial represent a good value for the cost, but the Majestic Pet Suede Bagel is the option to beat. Unlike most foam choices, it has sides that make it easier for your pup to get comfortable. Plus, the suede is soft and the base is durable. For pet owners in hot climates, we added the K&H Pet Products Original Cot, which lifts your dog off the ground. This allows for excellent breathability, and if your pet should happen to have an accident, the mesh allows it to drain off the sleeping surface. And because it is simple to assemble and disassemble, it makes a great portable dog bed, as does the Kurgo Loft Wander, a roll-up model that's exceptionally light.

If your dog should happen to have arthritis or any other painful condition, the Buddyrest Crown Supreme and the Dog's Balls Orthopedic might be a better bet. These were designed specifically to stop painful sleeping, whether the issue comes from hip dysplasia, osteochondritis, or just plain old age. They're both on the pricey side, but they're made to high quality standards and come in a range of colors. The latter is perhaps not as waterproof as some of the competition, though.
