July 06, 2020:
Putting a pair of knee pads on your little one can help safeguard his or her vulnerable knees; for the best protection, you'll need to choose a pair that fits snugly, but that isn't too tight, to ensure that they stay in place. To this end, we've added a range of styles that will fit legs of various sizes. For smaller children, the Maberry Tech Direct or the Grocery House Infant are a good starting point. They're cute and colorful — and not too large. Or, consider the Okydoky Safety Pad, which arrives with a cute head cushioning pad that is sure to give you some extra peace of mind. For chunkier legs, there's the KneeBees Cotton or the Simply Kids Toddler. The former come in big sizes appropriate for kids from 6 months to 8 years and up, while the latter are adjustable thanks to Velcro straps and are appropriate for children up to 24 months old.
If you're still struggling with fit, or find that knee pads slide down, you might consider an alternative, such as the Go Little One Go Anti-Slip or the Sevi Baby Crawling Pants. These are pants with anti-slip grips or padding, respectively; they stay on well and won't make diaper changes unnecessarily difficult. The CMK Trendy Kids provide a layer of knee protection, as well, but they aren't padded. This means they can stop rug burn, but they won't guard against bruises and pain from falls.
One final word about safety. Be alert when choosing knee pads with grippy dots; if repeated washing loosens them, they could become a choking hazard as a curious little one tries to peel them off and pop them in his or her mouth. As with most items you give to or put on a baby, from rattles to onesies, inspect them before each use to ensure that there is no damage that could potentially be harmful.
