To keep your boots in the best shape possible, we've looked for a wide range of options that includes racks, shapers, and more. We ultimately decided to remove the Whitmore Rack, however, as it tends to fall over, making it seem frustratingly flimsy to many. But when it comes to stability combined with space-saving design, the Boot Butler Storage Rack still comes out on top. It requires some assembly, but it beats cheap racks that take up a lot of space. You'll need some room in your closet to hang it, though. If you're already pressed for closet space, a rack might make sense, which is why we kept the Better Homes & Gardens Organizer and the Innoka Standing Rack. The former is exceptionally useful, as it can hold umbrellas along with your footwear, and you can stack several, in case you have an extensive shoe collection. The latter is useful but perhaps not all that attractive, so plan to stash it away in your mudroom.
As for inserts, we still like the My Boot Trees, and we added the Cedar Green Shaper. If you are fighting shoe smells, the Cedar Green model will be particularly useful, as the cedar keeps moisture at bay and offers a pleasant and refreshing odor. Or, if you're looking for a budget-friendly model, the Booti Color Pack may be the way to go. Crafted from flexible plastic, these aren't particularly fancy, but they're effective enough, and packable, too.
