Paring something as complicated and rich as the Bible down to comprehensible terms for a child is a Herculean task, which is why there is an abundance of books that take a variety of approaches available. We cherry-picked some of the best for kids as young as toddler age all the way to preteen so there's something for everybody.

Each version here is meant to help young ones understand and get to know the key players and vital tenets of God's Word, as well as show them how their faith can be applied in modern times. Depending on the age of your child, their Bible will be used for independent reading and reflection, so it's a good idea to keep a bible dictionary handy to ensure nothing gets lost in translation.

Visual learners will love that many of the books on this list are rife with full-color illustrations, with The Complete Illustrated Children's being one of the most enchanting. Be aware that it is not a comprehensive option though, and has a few inaccuracies. Because its stories are limited to one or two pages, it's great for short attention spans, but can feel incomplete, so you might want to pair it with another title to fill in any gaps.

We updated The Beginner's Bible to reflect the most recent revised edition and decided to remove Pray & Play and replace it with the Hands-On Bible, which is similarly interactive but much more detailed and complete, as well as geared toward a wider range of ages.

Airship Genesis also joins the list today in place of Love Letters from God. While we still feel that Love Letters from God is very sweet and great for making kids feel special, at only 40 pages, it's not quite a Bible. Airship Genesis, on the other hand, is an excellent tool for learning the Good Book back to front, and its space theme will resonate with sci-fi minded youngsters well.
