The 9 Best Construction Calculators

Updated January 05, 2021 by Will Rhoda

This wiki has been updated 20 times since it was first published in November of 2018. Many people are surprised how math-intensive construction is when they first enter the industry. While you may be able to handle a lot of these computations yourself with a regular calculator, you'll probably find that you waste a lot of time and wind up with more than a few errors. These purpose-built models are specifically designed to solve common building-related equations. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

January 01, 2021:

Without much movement in the category since we last visited it, it was a fairly uneventful round of updates. The only real substantive changes we made were removing the Jobber 6 and Scale Master CMP EZ Bundle – both due to availability issues – and adding the 5070 ElectriCalc Pro to our list — a specialty model for electricians that impressed us with its ability to be updated every three years, in order to ensure that its conforming to the latest version of the National Electrical Code.

Note that, because this page is presently comprised strictly of models from Calculated Industries – an extremely dominant brand in this category, with a wide range of offerings – we went against our normal protocol and simply identified our picks based on their model number and designation, in order to avoid sounding like a broken record.

If you found your way to this list, there’s a good chance that you’re a gearhead like me, so you might be interested in checking out a few more of our pages that might appeal to construction workers. We’ve got rankings for everything from heated jackets to tool backpacks.

In addition to functionality, we believe durability is also important in construction calculators since they may often be tossed in a bag with other tools or jumbled around in the back of a work van. After that, we did our best to include fully-featured models that support a wide variety of calculations.

After deciding that the pen was mightier than the pliers, Canadian electrical contractor William Rhoda abandoned his career and headed back to college, where he majored in marketing and advertising and won a scholarship along the way to earning a diploma in creative communications. His past career landed him a depth of knowledge in tools and hardware, while his current career schooled him in audio, video and camera equipment. During his leisure time, he’s learned lots about outdoor gear, and years of tiresome backyard maintenance have taught him all about pools and hot tubs. His recreational pursuits include rest, relaxation and revolutionary action, and his roommate’s a hairless cat.
