Editor's Notes
September 10, 2020:
Before purchasing a dining bench, you should know the height of the table and how many people you plan to accommodate. Generally, dining benches stand about 17 to 19-inches high with a length between 4 and 6 feet. And although a manufacturer may claim that a piece of furniture can seat two to three people, you still need to check the weight requirement. For example, the Walker Edison Meridian is 60-inches long and designed to hold three people. Still, it's unlikely that you're going to find three adults that weigh 100 pounds each. The Erommy Industrial Mid-Century, on the other hand, can support a 500-pound load. However, at only 44-inches long, it will not hold three people comfortably.
You also should consider if you will use the bench regularly or occasionally. It matters because if you're going to be sitting on it everyday and possibly dropping food or spilling drinks, you want to make sure you can clean it easily. Wood seats without padding like the Boraam Farmhouse or the Ashley Signature Design Berringer may be more suitable for daily meals, while the Roundhill Furniture Biony may be more fitting for entertaining occasional guests.
There are a variety of benches to choose from. If you're looking for designs for other areas of the house, check out the padded benches and wooden benches reviewed on this site.
