The GE GRS600AVDS is the new top pick. It's a slide-in convection range from a major maker, and its stainless twin came out on top in Reviewed's electric range tests. Nothing from the old list survived: the Cafe slide-in, the GE JB645RKSS, the GE PB960SJSS double oven, both Verona 36-inch ranges, the Frigidaire Gallery induction model and the Magic Chef MCSRE24S can no longer be bought new, so all seven are gone.
Many well-reviewed Samsung, Frigidaire and Whirlpool ranges are in the same spot, sold mostly through appliance dealers now. That leaves more import brands than we'd like, so Cosmo, Forno and Empava had to earn their places on warranty terms and spec sheets. The Rangaire RRE361TS covers 36-inch openings, and the Avanti ERU240P1B covers tight apartments.
For this category the deciding evidence was Reviewed's lab results on the GE platform, each maker's oven size, element layout and warranty, and the CPSC notices on tip-over and bumped-knob fires, which shaped how we weighed front and rear controls.

In the world of electric stoves, manufacturers quickly release new models and discontinue older ones, which resulted in us replacing nearly every one of our previous recommendations. The first two have the usual stacked design, while the last 365DSS has a side-by-side layout, which can be very convenient for those who have a bad back or who simply like to avoid bending over all the time. Of all our recommendations, the Cafe 30-Inch Slide-in is the most technologically advanced, with Wi-Fi and the ability to integrate with smart home assistants. For those on a tight budget, the GE JB645RKSS is the best choice, while those with space constraints can look to the Magic Chef MCSRE24S.

The stove (or range) is the centerpiece of most kitchens, and just because you don't use gas doesn't mean that you can't enjoy a fantastic cooking experience. Ranges, overall, come in two main formats: freestanding and slide-in. Your kitchen's setup will determine which is right for you, but keep in mind that freestanding models are often significantly cheaper. When it comes to electric ranges (or stoves), there are two additional categories to keep track of: radiant and induction burners. Radiant burners heat up using traditional resistance-based elements, while induction uses a system of magnets to directly heat the pan you're cooking with. This does mean that you'll need magnetic pans to use an induction stove (or range, whatever you want to call it). And as they're somewhat new contenders in home kitchens, not all induction units are up to snuff in terms of reliability. As is often the case with GE appliances, the Profile actually is, and is as attractive as it is functional. In fact, it's even relatively inexpensive for its class. The Frigidaire induction model is another high-end unit at a reasonable price. In the world of radiant cooktops, the LG is commonly recommended by experts. The GE Freestanding, as well as the Frigidaire 540, are particularly effective options, and they're considerably affordable, in light of their high quality. The Whirlpool and Samsung occupy the mid range, while the Electrolux and Imperial are both very high-end.

Freestanding, Slide-In And The Size Of The Gap
Some ranges, like the Empava EMPV-30ERX62, are sized to fit either kind of cutout.
Measure the opening before anything else. Nearly every full-size range is 30 inches wide and fits a cutout about 36 inches high; compact models are 24 inches, and pro-style ranges run 36. A freestanding range has finished sides and a raised back panel, usually with the controls on it, so it can stand at the end of a counter. A slide-in has no back panel, puts its controls up front and overlaps the counter edge for a built-in look, and it usually costs more. Some ranges, like the Empava EMPV-30ERX62, are sized to fit either kind of cutout.
Then decide which features you'll really use. Reviewed rated the GE GRS600AVFS, the stainless twin of our top pick, best overall for its even convection baking and its removable oven tray, but it also found that no-preheat air fry modes often need longer cook times than promised. A convection fan and a dual-ring element matter more to most cooks than a long list of modes.
Smooth Top, Coil Or Induction
Most electric ranges now use radiant elements under a smooth glass top. It wipes clean and looks tidy, but it stays hot after you switch it off, and dragging cast iron across it can scratch it. Coil burners are the old design. They're cheap, tough and easy to swap when one fails, which is why they survive mainly on compact ranges like the Avanti ERU240P1B.
Induction heats the pan itself with a magnetic field. Consumer Reports notes it boils water faster and responds quicker than radiant elements, but it needs magnetic cookware: if a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the bottom of a pan, the pan will work. Induction ranges cost more, and the ones on the old list are no longer sold, so this list sticks to radiant and coil tops.
Preheat speed varies a lot. In Reviewed's test of the Samsung NE63A6511SS, the oven took longer than average to reach temperature, even though it baked evenly once there.
Power, Tip-Over And Knob Safety
A 30-inch electric range runs on 240 volts, typically from a 40-amp circuit with a four-prong outlet, though the rating plate on the range has the final word. Many ranges, including the Cosmo Stellar and the Avanti, come without a power cord. Buy the three- or four-wire cord that matches your outlet, and call a licensed electrician if you need a new circuit.
Fasten the anti-tip bracket, and put the range back on it after any move. GE recalled 20-, 24- and 30-inch ranges in 2021 to fix tip-over risks when the bracket wasn't secured. Front knobs are easy to reach, and easy to bump: Samsung recalled about 1.12 million slide-in ranges in 2024 and LG recalled about 500,000 ranges in 2025 after knobs were turned on by accident. With kids or pets, use the control lock and never leave anything on a cooktop that's off. Frigidaire and Kenmore Elite owners should check their model against the 2024 recall of rear-knob ranges whose elements could turn on by themselves.
