The 10 Best Gutter Covers

Updated February 16, 2021 by Chris Gillespie

This wiki has been updated 19 times since it was first published in November of 2018. Gutter covers might seem like a luxury item to new homeowners -- until the first time they perch themselves atop a ladder and try to dig out the surprising amount of debris that can accumulate in a year. The right guards can save you countless hours in both the spring and fall, plus they protect the value of your home by keeping the rain flowing through them and away from your foundation. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

February 12, 2021:

The width and style of the guttering and the size of the debris fouling them are the main factors to consider when choosing suitable covers. Standard four or five-inch K-style gutters can accept a range of different style screens such as the Amerimax Snap-In, which has a nylon mesh filter to screen out insects as well as tiny pollen particles, or the EZ-Gutter EZ-Quick, which features a wider mesh that keeps leaves and other larger debris at bay.

Oversized gutters of six inches or more can accept the Raptor Super and the Gutter Stuff EZ, which is made from a durable foam that allows water to drain through and keeps out everything else, and also stops mosquitos from laying their eggs. Rigid options are usually fastened in place and will provide a durable solution for many years, the Flexx Point 30 Year comes with stainless steel fasteners and is available in four colors, likewise, the Superior Gutter Guards 5-Inch are corrosion resistant and feature a raised pattern to direct rainwater over the screen to wash away any debris that has collected there.

Realizing not everyone has the same handyman abilities, we strove to include a variety of installation options, even though the simplest choices may not offer the same level of protection.
