The 10 Best Hair Brushes for Babies

Updated June 10, 2020 by Brett Dvoretz

This wiki has been updated 21 times since it was first published in April of 2018. When you do your own hair, you might apply plenty of pressure to get rid of stubborn knots, but a baby's head is delicate and needs special care. These brushes for infants are gentle enough for soft, developing scalps and specifically designed to not damage the thin, fragile strands of newborns. They provide a massage-like experience, and some may also help with cradle cap. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

June 07, 2020:

Brushing a baby's hair isn't simply about making them look cute, it offers a number of health benefits as well. For example, when you brush their hair, it stimulates the scalp, which promotes hair growth. It also helps prevent and alleviate cradle cap. With all this in mind, we looked for baby brushes and combs that are well suited to those tasks.

The Joyful Baby Set and Natemia Wooden both feature brushes that are made with goat hair. This material is good for helping to distribute the skin's natural oils through the hair, which may result in smoother and shinier strands. Plus, it does this while also being gentle on the head, providing a massage like experience. The former is a great value too, as it also includes a wooden-bristled brush, a comb, and even a colorful rattle to keep your baby occupied as your groom them, all for an affordable price.

The Innobaby Bathin Smart, Fridababy DermaFrida SkinSoother, and Scalp Scrubbie are good multi-purpose options that can be used to scrub the entire body, so you won't need a separate washcloth. Of these though, only the Scalp Scrubbie is good for children with thick hair. The other two are only suitable for those with fine hair or strands that are just starting to sprout. We do, however, appreciate the integrated suction cups on these, as it makes it convenient to quickly place them in an easily retrievable place when you need to take a moment to comfort a squirming child.

If you are looking for a gift or keepsake, the Fillboss Silver Plated is a clear winner, as it can be ordered with custom engraving and has an elegant silver finish. It also features a cute bear design and comes as a set with both a brush and comb in an attractive box. The Disney Minnie Wide Tooth also boasts a high cuteness factor, though the brush head is rather small, so we wouldn't recommend it for toddlers.
