July 28, 2020:
Bracelet making kits for kids can run the gamut in quality and designs, and we know firsthand that often they arrive with subpar parts that can't stand up to the abuse young ones can give them. Our priority during this update was ensuring that our choices used higher-quality materials than most, even when priced for tight budgets. We also favored units with storage to keep everything together.
That meant saying goodbye to the Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Loom and replacing it with the Rainbow Loom Deluxe, a much more extensive option with instructions that go above and beyond to simplify things for beginners. Looms like this can take a bit of patience, but often many kids rise to the occasion as long as they understand what they're supposed to be doing.
When the Text Cool Studio became unavailable, we decided to add another generously-supplied kit with the Kid Made Modern Jewelry Jam. This selection is for creative children who want to move beyond bracelets and comes with more than enough pieces to accommodate siblings or friends at a sleepover. Finally, we swapped the gendered Choose Friendship New Version with the unisex-friendly Choose Friendship Travel Edition, which also happens to be the more popular kit of the two. This one is great for inspiring kids with wanderlust and happens to teach the word "friend" in a variety of languages to boot.
This list was curated with diversity in mind, so you'll find everything from a great gift for a little girl or boy to a fun choice for siblings, tweens, and kids as young as four. There are options for youngsters who want to learn how to do intricate weaves as well as units designed to simplify that process in favor of speed, like the Loopdedoo Spinning.

Bracelet makers come in a handful of varieties, and we wanted to incorporate as many of them as we could since what clicks for one kid might not make sense to another. That's why you'll find embossing kits, looms that spin or require hand-picking with a crotchet hook, simple bead stringing, sets that require hand braiding, and beads that simply snap together.
These kits are ideal for sleepovers, birthday parties, making gifts for schoolmates, fostering creativity and developing motor skills in young children, and much more. We selected options that we felt were constructed well (given the category), priced right, fun to use, and suitable for both girls and boys.
Because this list had not been updated in quite some time, several of our choices became unavailable, including the Y&Y Star, Wekity Lacing and Stringing, Kangaroo's Make Your Own, and Mazichands Premium. We used this as an opportunity to recommend the Biranco Pop Beads, 3 Bees & Me Complete, Melissa & Doug Created By Me, and Creativity for Kids Mermaid, all quality sets that we felt diversified the list.
We especially like the 3 Bees & Me Complete because it makes durable paracord bracelets (something that's hard to come by) and the Biranco Pop Beads for its plethora of bold, fun beads and the fact that it's extremely easy to use and comes with a case to help keep its hundreds of pieces together.
