Schott 50's Perfecto Having been making them for over a century, Schotts knows a thing or two about leather jackets, and the 50's Perfecto truly illustrates that. It is crafted from midweight pebbled cowhide that is extremely durable, yet still has a buttery feel. It features a star-shaped stud on the epaulet of each shoulder, an asymmetrical front zipper, and eye-catching nickel hardware. schottnyc.com

Amersham Biker All Saints makes leather jackets that look and feel more expensive than they are, and the Amersham Biker is no exception. It features quilter panels over each shoulder, four exterior and two interior pockets, and shiny silver hardware. It also has a contrasting red liner and a slim fit cut that give it a contemporary feel. allsaints.com

Editor's Notes

October 13, 2019:

Leather jackets are one of the few garments that have been in fashion for decades, and there is no reason to believe they won't be for decades more. Though style is always changing, certain designs are just as appealing today as they day they were first released, like the First Mfg Co Motorcycle for example, which has the classic rock star aesthetic. As the name implies, it is designed for riding and has pockets designed to hold CE-rated armor, as does the Joe Rocket '92. We also have a list specifically for motorcycle jackets if neither of these tickles your fancy.

We wanted to make sure this list included a nice variety of jackets in not only styles, but also price ranges. However, we also wanted to make sure even our budget prices were of high quality. Because of that, we replaced some of the options that made out list last year that didn't quite seem up to snuff for various reasons. For example, we eliminated the Reeds Baseball Suede, as we didn't think its bulky design had enough appeal anymore, and the Sword Genuine Lambskin because there were complaints of it wearing out quickly.

A new addition to our list this year is the John Varvatos Collection Slim-Fit Blazer, which comes from a company known for making extremely high-quality leather products. Also, since it is professional enough to wear to a dinner party with your co-workers, but cool enough for a night at the trendiest cocktail bar in town, you should get a lot of use out of it. The Perry Ellis Open Bottom and Cole Haan Smooth Collar are also smart options that are conservative enough to wear to work.

If you want something that will break in nicely and feel like a second skin over time, you should consider the Lucky Brand Vintage Moto and Cole Haan Smooth Collar. On the other hand, if you prefer something with a bit more bulk that can keep your warm on those frigid days, you'll want to check out the Landing Leathers Navy Bomber, which also happens to be quite affordable.
