This wiki has been updated 17 times since it was first published in March of 2020. The best carport lights ensure residents don’t run into objects with vehicles, trip over obstacles while walking, or worse, get ambushed by the irksome variety of creatures prowling about driveways at night. While many models don't need to be hardwired, others do, and should definitely be installed by a professional. No matter how you get yours set up, we've vetted the best for you here. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

April 06, 2020:

There are many different types of carports out there, some of which are detached from the structures they are affiliated with, while others are flush with homes, garages, etc. In order to meet the needs of the many, this list necessarily includes a selection of carport lights that do not need to be hardwired to function. That being said, there are still options here that will need to be wired, and we suggest getting a professional electrician to install those. However, if you insist on installing a hardwired options such as the JJC Security Lights, Sansi Dusk to Dawn, or Lepower Floodlight yourself, at the very least we suggest you use a non-contact voltage tester to detect livewires that should have been deactivated, as well as some electrician’s gloves to keep you insulated as an extra precautionary measure.

Moving on, as pleased as we are with solar options, and as much as we’d like to be proponents of renewable energy, we would like to remind you that models such as the Sunix Solar Sensor, Litom Original, and Aootek Wide Angle must receive direct sunlight to charge, and that that requirement should be very seriously considered before purchase.

Similarly, we have avoided putting any ceiling-mounted designs on the list for the time being due to the installation difficulties they might pose considering the average carport situation.
