Updated September 05, 2020 by Chris Gillespie

This wiki has been updated 16 times since it was first published in May of 2020. Ceramic logs are heat resistant and durable, and are suitable for many types of indoor and outdoor gas fireplaces, fire pits, and even real wood fires. They are often hand-painted and cast from logs, making them look very realistic. The ones we selected in this ranking come as large or small sets for either a complete fire or to add to an existing one, and are available in a variety of wood types. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

September 02, 2020:

Ceramic fiber logs are very versatile, and are a great way to spruce up your old school fire pit, modern fire table with lava rock or glass, or indoor propane and natural gas fireplaces. They come in a variety of sizes and amounts and can be mixed and matched to create your own style. Bear in mind that there are hundreds, if not thousands of variations of fireplaces and fire codes across the USA, and it is very important that you proceed with caution when it comes to lighting a fire in your home.

Most of the log sets we chose for this ranking are suitable for indoor or outdoor use, with gas or real fires. Some are large sets such as the Hmleaf 8 Piece, the 3GPlus Birch, the Peterson Real Fyre Coastal Driftwood, and the Natural Glo 10 Piece. These sets contain enough logs to set up a complete fire and would make a good replacement set for an existing fireplace. Of these, the Peterson Real Fyre Coastal Driftwood is the only one with limitations as it must be used on vented systems. Smaller sets are good for adding weight to your fire and can complement and enhance the logs you already have. The Youlian Small 4 Piece and the Skyflame Small Piece Set both have nice detailing with scorch marks and charring, while the latter includes three attractive pinecones that make an especially nice addition over the festive period.

We also included two sets that come with a burner, namely the Pleasant Hearth Wildwood, which can be used with propane or natural gas, and the Duluth Forge Stacked Oak, which features a thermostatic burner that is operated by remote control, and has a built-in carbon monoxide sensor. The most realistic set we selected is the Midwest Hearth Deluxe Branch and Twig, which are cast from real logs and have all been hand-painted. There are eight different wood types and styles to choose from ranging in color, texture, and length, so whether you need a complete set or a few pieces to add contrast, there should be something to suit your preferences and needs.
