Editor's Notes

August 04, 2020:

In selecting our men's office bags, we first wanted to include a range of products that would offer something both for those who prefer vintage-looking pieces, as well as those who want something more modern. Between briefcases, messenger bags, and laptop cases, there are many types of accessories men can use to lug their work belongings, so we included choices of every kind. Durability was also certainly important, as we know these items will see a lot of use.

On the longevity front, we liked the Timbuk2 Classic Messenger, because of its rip-resistant Cordura canvas, along with the Tumi Alpha 3 Slim Deluxe Portfolio, which has a ballistic nylon construction. Unfortunately, the ZLYC Leather Messenger proved to have weak stitching that comes apart quickly, so it had to go.

Organizational compartments are an asset to the busy professional, which is why we like the Kenneth Cole Reaction Manhattan, with its two-file divider and many convenient pockets. The Samsonite Expandable Business Case also has many functional compartments, including a concealed sleeve for valuables. Thanks to its 14-liter capacity, the Filson Dryden Briefcase snagged a place on our list. We removed the Kanzek Black And Brown Luxury Full Grain because it cannot hold very much.

Those who like a traditional business accessory might like the Alpine Swiss Attache Briefcase. That being said, some turn more to leather items when seeking timeless bags, so we offer several of those. Though we liked the materials of the Chicago Saddle Messenger and the Satchel and Fable Crazy-Horse, their aesthetics were slightly tired, so we removed them to make room for the fresher looking Polare Modern Business Briefcase and the Estalon Laptop Messenger. The Saddleback Leather Company Flight was another leather option that lost its place. Even though it was a decent product, we wanted to make room for the Texbo Thick Cowhide Tote, because it has similar features of the Saddleback Leather Company Flight, with the added bonus of two comfort pads on the strap.

December 14, 2018:

While buying a bag is largely a matter of personal preference, features like reliable zippers, protective spaces for electronics, and durable materials all played a part in this selection. The Polare and Satchel and Fable models in particular married attractive styling with functionality and ruggedness.

He has been a professional chef, a dog trainer, and a travel correspondent for a well-known Southeast Asian guidebook. He also holds a business degree and has spent more time than he cares to admit in boring office jobs. He has an odd obsession for playing with the latest gadgets and working on motorcycles and old Jeeps. His expertise, honed over years of experience, is in the areas of computers, electronics, travel gear, pet products, and kitchen, office and automotive equipment.
