Editor's Notes

May 29, 2020:

Choosing a pot holder doesn't sound like rocket science; as long as you are not forced to use a kitchen towel, finding one that protects your hands from high heats seems easy enough. However, all holders aren't created equal. In fact, they come in a variety of sizes and materials, and they can withstand different temperatures.

The KitchenAid Asteroid is made from cotton with heat-resistant silicone grips that make it easy to hang onto a roasting pan or cookie sheet. It can handle temperatures up to 500 degrees. The HOMWE Professional Mitt fits over your hand and wrist for the most skin protection, and it also has a textured grip and withstands 500-degree temperatures.

If you want a holder that has more than one function, the Aibrisk Mats might be the better choice. Made entirely from silicone, you can hang onto hot pans, open a jar lid, or even peel garlic with it. At 7-inches square, it is smaller than the mitt, which means no protection for your wrists, and it is safe for temperatures only up to 400 degrees. The PratiPad Plus is also just as versatile, and it can handle 446-degree temperatures, but the honeycomb design can be tough to clean.

The IXO 6-Piece Set is kind of the best of both worlds because you get 2 mitts and 2 pads, all of which can stand 500-degree temperatures, so you can use the one that fits your immediate need.
