This wiki has been updated 22 times since it was first published in April of 2018. It's one of life's cruel ironies that, just when you've finally earned the privilege of settling into an easy chair to relax for a while, you realize how disinclined those weary bones are to stand up again. Fortunately, these cushy power lift recliners provide a safe way to get comfy and a helpful nudge to get you back on your feet once it's time to get moving. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

October 14, 2019:

A power lift chair is excellent for recovering from surgeries, those with limited mobility, and the elderly, but before you choose yours, be sure to scrutinize the dimensions so you can ensure it will be a comfortable fit.

You'll find that you'll need to choose between fabric or leather upholstery. Leather is easy to clean if you experience urinary incontinence, but it can also be slippery. Fabric is easier to stay seated on while the chair nudges you out, but can stain from repeated spills and other mishaps. If you feel the trade-offs for each type of chair are tough to deal with, consider getting a protective slipcover.

Our latest update to this list saw the removal of the unavailable Seven Oaks Wall Hugger, which we replaced with the similar, but cushier, Domesis Renu Leather. This model is ideal for those who want to keep their chairs close to the wall. We also scrapped the Divano Roma to make room for the Irene House Modern, which we feel is of better quality and has a touch more versatility thanks to its removable snap covers and color options. We swapped the Windaze Recliner and supplanted it with the Mcombo Electric, a model that shares many of the same perks but with a more thoughtful and reliable design that includes a USB port.

We wanted this list to run the gamut, so you'll find a variety of styles, upholsteries, prices, functions, and features. Our priorities included high-quality materials, warranties, reliable mechanics, simple assembly, and plenty of support. Many of our selections have back up batteries in case of power failure. With that being said, no chair can be guaranteed to be completely faultless forever, so if you are incapable of getting in and out of it on your own, always have a contingency plan in case of failure. It's also important to note that while enjoying the assistance power lift chairs provide, if you are older and still have mobility, it is crucial to keep using and strengthening your muscles whenever and wherever you can.
