Editor's Notes

July 01, 2020:

As the anchor of the living area, a couch is one of the most important pieces of furniture in a person's home. It hosts guests, supports family, and provides a cozy spot to read a book or binge a favorite television show. When choosing which sectional sofas to include in this list, we took into account the strength of the frame, the quality of the cushions, the durability of the upholstery, and the appeal of the overall design. We also made sure to include options in various sizes, price points, and looks to accommodate as many needs as possible.

Perhaps the best represented on this list are the mid-century modern inspired selections, like the Poly & Bark Napa Left-Facing Velvet, which impressed us with its elegant lines and high-quality construction, the Rivet Aiden Mid-Century Leather Reversible, which is made with top-grain leather, and the Kardiel Woodrow 100" Right-Sided, which boasts hand-crafted upholstery and a real walnut veneer.

We also love the contemporary feel of the Lilola Home Casanova 7-Piece Modular, which offers versatility, accent pillows, and a footrest. The transitional Nolany Reversible Corner Couch is another nice option, with the ability to position the chaise on either the right or left side.

Because we know many people use their couches to host guests, we included two sleeper options. The Ashley Signature Jarreau Sleeper is a compact model that converts to a full-size bed. The Lilola Home Lucca Linen Sleeper turns into a bed as well, but it also includes a storage compartment to easily tuck blankets and pillows away. Our sofa beds ranking offers additional sleeper options, if this is your primary concern.

No matter what design, the one thing that's near universally true about this kind of furniture is it has to stand up to a lot of use. To help your investment last longer, we suggest checking out durable covers, like those found on our sofa protectors ranking.
