Editor's Notes

December 12, 2020:

Kids can be rambunctious when it comes to mealtime, even when stationary at your kitchen table. They become even messier when having sustenance on the go, which is why it was important to us that our snack cups had features that prevent, or at least minimize, spills. Since parents sometimes struggle to get finicky children to eat, we also looked for fun designs that would entice little ones. Portability was also a priority, since these will often travel along in strollers and cars.

The Munchkin Plus Catcher instantly caught our attention because it marries durability with hygiene through its steel base and silicone lid. Even though the Olizee Dispenser is also made with long-lasting silicone, we removed it to make room for the comparable, but superior, BraveJusticeKidsCo Snack Attack, which has the same anti-bacterial build and soft flaps, but also compresses for packing.

In the visual appeal department, the Skip Hop Zoo Container earned points for its many endearing animal designs. It also helped that that choice has a hole for tethering to a bag or stroller, which can help to prevent loss. The Whiskware Harry Potter Stackable may also appeal to a young snacker's imagination, with characters from the famous wizard stories found in its name.

When it comes to portability, a few models stood out. The First Years Take & Toss nest for storage, and have secure lids. Featuring a bottle and food container, the Contigo 2-in-1 Hero Tumbler can be used to carry a full mini-meal. And, the Munchkin Brica Deluxe Pod can can be used to hold a drink along with food, and attaches easily onto many surfaces thanks to its adjustable clamp.

Like sippy cups, a set of high-quality snack cups for kids are a must for use at home as well as when you’re on the road, and they’ll help to keep your child’s crackers, fruits, veggies, and other snacks conveniently portioned out and ready to be eaten.

Joining the list in today’s update is the Contigo Snack Hero 2 and 1, a reliable option for parents who want to give their kids a snack and a drink in one convenient container. They come in a two pack, with spill-proof valves that ensure they won’t leak or drip, even if held upside down. Their protective spout shield keeps the straw covered when it’s not in use, and the wide, comfortable carrying handle makes them easy to tote around and attach to a bag when you’re on the go.

Another option worthy of mention is the First Years Take & Toss. They feature lids that are easy to pop on or off, with helpful pull-tabs. Since they’re highly affordable and come in a pack of five, it’s OK if one gets left behind at Grandma’s or a play date. We personally got extensive use out of these when our kids were young, and we loved how sturdy and easy to wash they were. They’re great for holding cereal puffs, crackers, fruits, and vegetables.

Whichever snack cup you select, be sure to follow manufacturer's guidelines, including whether they are safe for use in the microwave and dishwasher.
