You want something that can hold up to the wear and tear of a long season, while they just care about looking cool. And to further complicate things, the league has specific requirements regarding what is allowed on the field. With one of these selections, you can avoid breaking the bank and still appease the youngsters. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

March 05, 2021:

When it comes to apparel for kids, we always want to balance cost with quality, and this is especially so in performance footwear, as a good pair can help them play better and reduce the chances of injury. Of course, most parents generally don't want to spend a ton of money for something a child may only be able to wear for a single season. The soccer cleats here do a good job of straddling the line, with some leaning a bit further one way or another, so there is something to meet the needs of every parent and child.

Most of this update consisted of replacing previous recommendations with their newer iteration. For example, we replaced the Nike Superfly 6 Academy with the Nike Jr. Superfly 7 Academy, the Adidas Nemeziz 18.3 with the Adidas Nemeziz 19.3, and so on. While we aren't 100% convinced there is a lot of difference between these versions, despite what marketing departments may try and tell us, and would certainly not fault anyone for buying the older models if they cost less and can be found in stock, the truth is they often can't be, and because of these availability issues, we included the newer iterations here.

The above aside, there were a couple of previous recommendations we chose to eliminate entirely. One such pair of cleats is the Roonasn Boots. These don't come from a reputable brand known for making sportswear and we see no reason to choose them over the Puma Spirit, Diadora Cattura MD and Vizari Impact Fg, which are equally affordable but come from manufacturer's we have more trust in.

The big elephant in the room here is cost, since those kids are going to grow and you'll have to buy a new pair every year. When it comes to younger kids, less well-known brands have a lot to offer as the expensive options aren't that much better. But once you're serious about play, avoiding sore feet over a long season is important, and higher-end shoes from respected manufacturers top the list for that reason.
