Editor's Notes

August 17, 2019:

A baby gate is an essential piece of equipment for parents of mobile youngsters. It can help keep them safe from hazards like stairways and can help you keep your sanity by keeping babies and toddlers (or even pets) out of areas where you don't want them.

When installing and using your gate, it's important to follow a few common-sense guidelines to ensure maximum safety. For example, make sure you read the installation instructions and follow the manufacturer's safety recommendations. Also, pressure-mounted gates are not recommended for the top of the stairs because they could come loose, resulting in a nasty tumble. Likewise, a gate with a threshold bar across the bottom is not ideal for stairways because the bar presents a tripping hazard.

That's why we like the Cardinal Stairway Special and gave it one of our top slots. It is hardware mounted, has no threshold bar across the bottom, and has other features that make it ideal for stairway use.

He now lives and works in the inter-mountain West where he creates technical and marketing content, including white papers, solution briefs, and courseware for some of the world’s largest information technology companies. With more than 14 years of experience in the field, he has learned more than he ever thought he would know about such enterprise IT topics as cloud computing, storage, databases, business software, and networking. When he’s not writing about business computing, he can be found outdoors, probably hiking with his family and dog.
