The 6 Best WiFi Ceiling Fans
Editor's Notes
January 28, 2021:
Quite surprisingly, given the rapid pace these smart categories frequently move at, it was a relatively uneventful round of updates. As was hinted at by a previous editor for this page, it seems likely that this is due to the fact that virtually any ceiling fan can be controlled via Wi-Fi, as long as it’s combined with the appropriate hardware, which leaves little incentive for manufacturers to invest in designs with integrated connectivity.
Due to availability issues, we removed the Moes Switch, and replaced it with the Treatlife Dimmer — an Alexa-compatible light switch that we thought was worth including for the benefit of users who would be just as happy to upgrade their existing ceiling fan.
We also added Nutcrust Retractable to the bottom of our list. Since this model lacks the pre-requisite Wi-Fi connectivity that would righteously qualify it for this category, we were apprehensive to include it. However, between its app connectivity and built-in bluetooth speaker, we still thought it was a model that many shopping in this category might find interesting.
If you’re having trouble finding an option that appeals to your personal budget and tastes, a simple, inexpensive solution that’s worth considering in the short term is combining a smart plug with an existing household fan, which will be enough to provide you with some basic, remote-control air circulation.
November 08, 2018:
We noticed a common theme when identifying the best Wi-Fi ceiling fans, many aren't actually smart themselves without the purchase of a hub device. Since almost any fan can be connected to home automation systems with the addition of a hub controller, we chose not to include any of those on our list. Instead, we focused on fans that actually come with everything needed to connect to your home Wi-Fi. We also included a few devices that allow you to turn an existing fan into a smart model.
