During this round of updates, while the Elitech RCW800 was removed due to availability issues, we also decided on replacing the Ambient Weather WS-8482 with the ThermoPro TP90.

We liked having the WS-8482 on the list, as it presented a relatively affordable multi-sensor option. But, when we considered that you can monitor an unlimited amount of TP90 units through its companion app, and that it’s about a third of the price of the WS-8482 – which only comes with three sensors – it made sense to make the swap. We also felt that the TP90 had a much smarter design.

Another new inclusion this time around is the Inkbird WiFi ITC-308 — a plug-and-play Wi-Fi thermostat that’s a mainstay for many hydroponic hobbyists. While this option’s dangling probe and bulky power cord might make it an undesirable choice for installation around the house, its app connectivity does make it a serviceable temperature monitor, and we thought that many of our users would like the option to fire up an exhaust fan or a baseboard heater remotely, in locations like workshops and garages, as well as indoor gardens.

The most alluring feature of these products is the ability to keep track of things no matter where you are, whether lying in the bedroom, or traveling around the globe. Some, like the Temp Stick and Elitech, work quite well in refrigerators and humidors, while we found a handful of comprehensive and interesting weather stations. The Tappecue is almost certainly the most functional and popular Wi-Fi-ready meat probe, and models like the PP-Code and Protheus are great for property managers and anyone concerned with frozen pipes during winter months.
