The 10 Best Armless Sofas
This wiki has been updated 10 times since it was first published in May of 2020. Often more compact than a regular couch, an armless sofa is perfect for small rooms or as an occasional, decorative piece. Their versatility also makes them a popular choice for entranceways, offices, and waiting rooms, while some even convert into a bed. We selected a variety of styles at various prices, from traditional to modern, and in a range of colors, patterns, and fabrics. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
July 28, 2020:
An armless sofa arguably lacks the coziness of being cocooned by an upholstered arm, however, they serve a purpose as they are often smaller and more unassuming than a regular couch and, as such, more versatile. They are a popular choice for those who want to complement their existing furniture, or those looking to add a seating option to hallways, bedrooms, or offices. Some even convert into a bed and can be a more comfortable choice than a futon or blow-up mattress.
If you are looking for a sofa that folds down into a bed, then the three that we reviewed are the Gold Sparrow Albany, which is a compact option that is only really suitable for one person to sleep. The Nirvana Futons Nico Urban, which is much larger, folds out into a full-sized bed and is available in a range of fabrics, and the DHP Emily, which has the added advantage of two independently reclining backrests, allows two people to sit at different lounging angles simultaneously. However, the seat padding on this one is a little on the firm side, so lacks the comfort levels of the previous two.
The other sofas we considered can be separated into two categories, namely traditional and contemporary. The GIA Mid Century, and the Zinus Jocelyn both have period styling and are available in a range of complementary fabrics and colors, the latter of which can be purchased as either a two or three-seater. The Christopher Knight Home Darcy, on the other hand, is a modern-looking option in brown bonded leather, which is a mixture of real and faux leather that has been glued to a fabric backing. This material is not as hard-wearing as real leather but is much cheaper. The Belleze Modern and the MLF Nelson Marshmallow both have very individual designs, one in leather and the other in velvet, that would suit a range of different styles of decor. Finally, the Meridian Furniture Serene was selected for this list due to its versatility. As a modular sofa, it can be set up in a variety of ways, or can even be paired up to create more than one sofa.
