Editor's Notes

October 07, 2019:

When shopping for down pillows, there are a few important things to take note of. They tend to flatten faster than options with synthetic filling, which means you'll have to fluff them more often. They also may have an inherent odor, even when the down is sterilized, so if you're sensitive to smells, you'll want to consider something like our #2 choice, the Pillowflex Synthetic.

You should also bear in mind that small amounts of down and feathers can poke through your pillow, so opt for something shed-resistant like the Pinzon White Duck or a pillow with a very tightly woven case such as the eLuxurySupply Extra. You also might want to invest in a case made from cotton or silk to protect it, keep it clean, and prevent leakage.

We wanted this list to contain both goose and duck down options, as well as a diverse range of densities, fill ratios, and fill power levels so that there is something for everyone. Back and side sleepers will benefit from firmer models, like the Continental Bedding Superior or Lincove Sleeping, while stomach sleepers should look for items with a lower fill power, such as the Downlite Very Flat and eLuxurySupply Extra. We let go of the Egyptian Quality Linens in favor of the Lincove Sleeping and promoted the Continental Bedding Luxury to the number three spot because it consistently pleases customers.
