The 10 Best Loveseats

Updated April 30, 2020 by Samuel Moyle

This wiki has been updated 17 times since it was first published in April of 2020. Loveseats are smaller than your average sofa, but larger than your everyday armchair, perfectly filling spots no other piece of furniture can. Used in a range of settings, from waiting areas, to studio apartment living rooms, they offer either a sprawling seat for one, or, as their name suggests, an intimate nest for two. The options we suggest are some of the best out there. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Ikea Everyone knows Ikea, but we figured we'd remind you about them since they have a revolving selection of loveseats that changes with the seasons and scales in price and quality. While they used to have a limited online shopping experience, their selections have increased over the years, and it never hurts to drop by their site and see what they have to offer. ikea.com

Donation Town There's an abundance of inexpensive items out there that many of us tend to use only lightly before we replace them. Whether you're getting rid of a loveseat right now or in the near future, please consider giving it to a worthy charity rather than taking it to the dump, which usually costs money anyway. This website has been featured on outlets such as Forbes and the Washington Post and is a great staging ground for finding the best local charities to haul your used stuff away. donationtown.org

Editor's Notes

April 27, 2020:

There’s a lot that goes into a good loveseat, and we’ve painstakingly taken all of it into account here. While everyone has different preferences when it comes to seat width, cushion firmness, arm height, and more, we aim for a sort of goldilocks zone that should please more people than not. For instance, too deep of a seat, and you can’t comfortably drape your legs off your couch while sitting up straight, which becomes a nuisance rather quickly. Too shallow, and you can’t lay back and relax, which is fine in places like office reception areas, but probably not your living room. Are the back cushions too firm? Do they just start out that way and eventually loosen up, or will they always be rock-hard and uncomfortable? This is all without even going into aesthetic appeal.

Given the number of considerations to tick off the list, we hope you take your loveseat purchase seriously and do thorough research before settling on one. Similarly, we want to remind you to be ready to take care of your investment, and consider items like sofa protectors and pet repellents if you have cats, dogs, or other pets you don’t want messing up your new purchase. Finally, since these are loveseats we’re dealing with, to keep things focused, no designs that are too wide have been included, so be sure you’re getting the size you want. Unlike regular sofas, you’ll have a hard time placing anything such as certain types of couch caddies next to occupants. On the other hand, maybe you’ll have room for a useful end table.

It should be noted that while polyester-covered models like the Zinus Benton, Zinus Ricardo, Modway Response, and Modway Prospect are easier to clean, they also might not breathe as well as furniture designed with natural fibers, which may cause occupants to sweat, in addition to other issues like static cling and piling. Conversely, the Novogratz Leyla is covered with brushed microfiber, which is made from polyester, but is known to breathe well.
