Editor's Notes

October 15, 2020:

Often worn by contractors and other service professionals, shoe covers help protect your shoes and keep germs and grime off the floor. Generally, there are two types of shoe covers: disposable and reusable. Disposable brands are made of thin plastic or fabric and offered to guests for a few hours of use. Reusable booties are mostly used by individuals who live inside the home. Most styles are made of PVC materials or EVA foam and can be worn outside for gardening and landscaping chores. Plus, they are easy to wash for reuse. Options with nylon uppers like the MyShoeCovers Reusable Booties and the Hammer Diamond Plate won’t last as long as covers made from PVC or EVA foam, but they provide months of use.

Most shoe covers offer some form of traction. Options include textured plastic like the Shubee Waterproof Disposables, silicone strips, like the ones on the G and F Products 13033, or treads similar to the Tidy Trax Hands-Free Protectors.

Except for high heels, these shoe covers will accommodate a range of shoes and work boots. Some manufacturers offer one-size-fits-most, and others provide sizes ranging from small through XXL. However, the Tidy Trax Hands-Free Protectors use a lettering system based on the length of the shoe.

Depending on your needs, you may opt for shoe covers with water-resistant properties. But most importantly, make sure they fit properly. If too large, they may cause you to trip or fall, and if too small, they'll be useless because they won't cover the entire shoe.
