Just so everyone's clear, all of the tagines on our list are safe for cooking, unlike decorative serving tagines that usually come with intricate painting on the outside. There are some cook-safe options that look great, also, such as the Treasure Of Morocco Medium, but most oven- and stove-ready models are just one or two colors.

The simplest options we recommend are the Treasure Of Morocco Glazed and especially the Ancient Cookware La Chamba, which has an especially smooth finish for an unglazed option. The Peregrino Torrent and extra-large Raphael Rozen Family Size are both great choices for glazed, clay options, but be aware that the bigger they get, the more prone they are to breaking.

On the other hand, you don't have to stick with traditional clay for something excellent, and in fact, a ceramic option like the Emile Henry 2.1-Quart conducts heat quickly and evenly. Alternatively, the Cooks Standard Multi-Ply is much like a standard frying pan, but in tagine shape, and with optional handles.

Rounding out our selection are two high-end cast-iron models, which retain significantly mopre heat than thinner metals, and in fact do so roughly as well as clay, ensuring even cooking. In terms of value, it's tough to top the Bruntmor BR3803, which comes in six colors and is about as durable as possible. At the top of the pack though, the Le Creuset Enameled sports an ultra-premium construction that can legitimately last years of full-time use.
