The 10 Best Wood Burning Stoves
Editor's Notes
February 04, 2021:
Recent changes in emission standards set forth by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have rendered many wood-burning stoves as unfit for use within homes, and therefore many of our previously recommended options have been removed. In their place, we selected a range of high-quality outdoor options, as well as a few carefully chosen indoor models that conform to these new stringent requirements.
Outdoor wood burners, such as the Spitfire Spartan, the Fltom Camp, and the Stovetec Big Foot, are primarily designed as a cooking appliance and are often relatively compact and easy to set up. The Spitfire Spartan is especially notable in this regard as it packs away into a carrying case that measures just 11 inches long, and thanks to its unique design, has virtually no heat wastage. Indoor options must now be certified to produce less than 2.0 grams of particulate matter per hour. The Drolet Escape, the Ashley Hearth A2520E-P, and the US Stove US1269E are all freestanding models that meet these current requirements, with the latter having two 6.5-inch cooking surfaces on the top.

Unlike traditional models, the Affirm Global EZY and EcoZoom Versa are highly portable and are designed primarily for cooking versus heating, which gives users a different style to choose from. Looked into the US Stove Longwood, but noticed several reports of inadequate air supply, which led to smoking issues. For this reason, I did not include it on the list.
