This wiki has been updated 30 times since it was first published in January of 2017. Although infants enjoy swaying back and forth in your arms, you don't always have the energy when dealing with a newborn. These portable baby swings allow you to provide your child with some hands-free comfort everywhere you go. They're soft and cozy and will soothe your little one to sleep, leaving you free to do a few chores or, better still, take a well-earned break. Editor's Notes

August 27, 2020:

As with any items for new parents, we wanted our selection of portable baby swings to make life a bit easier for adults caring for fussy little ones. We looked for features that reflect that priority. A good variety of styles was also important since different babies respond to different toys, colors, and other visual stimuli.

When it comes to alleviating parents of stress, we like that the movement of the Ingenuity Cozy Kingdom can be set on a timer, so adults don't need to remember to shut it off. During this update, we decided to eliminate the Kidco Swingpod, since it doesn't have any electronic functionality, and requires users to manually move it back and forth. Parents have enough to do as it is, and we prefer products that leave their hands free for a little while.

We like the hanging mirror and motorized toy bar on the Fisher-Price 2-In-1 Deluxe, which can entertain a finicky munchkin. The Ingenuity Cozy Kingdom also has some adorable plush figures to mesmerize a baby. Depending on what motion your little one responds most to, you may like that the Ingenuity Convert Me can operate as a swing or a bouncy seat. Another multifunctional option, the Fisher-Price Deluxe Take Along can be locked into stationary seat mode, which is helpful when you're on the road and don't have access to baby's usual chair for feeding time.

While most parents seek out a portable swing to take with them out of the house, we included the Graco Glider Light because although it doesn't fold, it offers one of the plushest, cozy seats available, plus it has a lightweight frame that's easy to move from room to room around the house. The Fisher-Price Take Along took the top spot because the base feels extra sturdy and it offers the versatile option to be a stationary seat.

A wandering writer who spends as much time on the road as in front of a laptop screen, Brett can either be found hacking away furiously at the keyboard or, perhaps, enjoying a whiskey and coke on some exotic beach, sometimes both simultaneously, usually with a four-legged companion by his side. He has been a professional chef, a dog trainer, and a travel correspondent for a well-known Southeast Asian guidebook. He also holds a business degree and has spent more time than he cares to admit in boring office jobs. He has an odd obsession for playing with the latest gadgets and working on motorcycles and old Jeeps. His expertise, honed over years of experience, is in the areas of computers, electronics, travel gear, pet products, and kitchen, office and automotive equipment.
