What is Love

In Depth

Love is timeless, and romantic stories have been around since Ancient Greece. While many people enjoy using literature to escape to the past, there are also plenty of great books about relatable characters falling in love in the modern age. With that in mind, we've compiled a list of twelve sensational works of contemporary romance. Take note that this list is done in no particular order.

First up, at #1, we have "Cocksure" by Shiloh Walker. Sabrina is the personal assistant of Hollywood star Luke Cochran. One day, Luke's sister asks him to come home and visit his sick mother, and he brings his assistant along with him. In a panicked effort to make his mother happy, he tells her that Sabrina is his fiance. Now, the two of them have to keep faking their relationship, and over time, they start to realize that they have real feelings for each other.

Next, at #2, is "Ghost" by Robin Covington. Oliver Burns is the renowned owner of a successful comic book publishing company, and he plans on signing an enigmatic but talented artist known only as "G" to his roster. When he finds out that "G" is actually Gareth Rain, a man he once had a one-night stand with, he makes it his goal to not only hire him, but also rekindle the spark they once had.

At #3 is "Pursued by the Rogue." Written by Kelly Hunter, it's the first entry of her "Fairy Tales of New York" series, which revolves around a group of friends who first met at a boarding school. This novella focuses on Dawn Turner, who thinks of herself as the ugly duckling of the group. In college, she had a brief fling with Finn Sullivan, but an unfortunate incident has caused her to avoid relationships altogether. Years later, they're reunited, and Finn is determined to pursue Dawn once more, despite her reservations.

Next up, at #4, we have "Delicate Ink." Written by Carrie Ann Ryan, it's the first book of her "Montgomery Ink" series. Austin, the owner of the tattoo parlor known as Montgomery Ink, is struggling to find a woman who is willing to put up with his family and attitude. When Sierra Elder sets up her boutique across the street from Austin's shop, the two of them slowly develop a loving relationship. Now, if they ever want to settle down together, they first have to deal with troublesome people from their pasts.

At #5 is "Alpha Prince" by Sidney Bristol. It's a modern retelling of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," and it revolves around Taylor Carter, the daughter of a notorious mob boss. She wants nothing to do with her family's criminal organization, and she's forced to go on the run after finding out that her stepmother wants her dead. The only person who can keep her alive is Ian Kelly, a man she once had sex with, but with even the FBI turning their backs on her, she's not sure who she can trust.
