Updated July 30, 2021 by Christopher Thomas

This wiki has been updated 16 times since it was first published in January of 2020. If you work in the concrete industry, then you are already familiar with the importance of rebar, a reinforcement rod used in various construction jobs. Even if you are just a DIY-er who enjoys taking on big projects, you might find yourself needing the right kind of equipment to cut this metal. Here, we take a close look at different tools designed for both large and small needs. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

July 23, 2021:

As you can see from the Wiki, there's a good deal of variance between different styles of rebar cutter. The electric Happybuy Electric is still the top choice because of its essentially effortless operation, although if you have a good hammer drill, the Bosch RC2124 is a perfectly acceptable choice — albeit not suitable for high-volume use. We did remove one manual option that was almost identical to the Steel Dragon RBC625, which is still our favorite long-handled model.

There are many reasons why you may have to cut rebar, and there are a wide range of ways to perform this task. You can do a few, simple cuts with a hacksaw or chop saw, but those options are not cost efficient if you consistently have lots of rebar to cut. There are plenty of cutting tools on the market, but choosing the best one goes beyond looking at the price tag. You have to think about your choice as in investment, an investment that will eventually pay for itself in the time and money you save by cutting it on your own.

When selecting a tool, you also have to think about your needs. For instance, do you need a stand-alone piece of equipment solely for cutting rebar? If so, then the Kaka Industrial MS-28 or the Happybuy Electric may be the right selection. Do you need a multifunctional tool that can cut rebar and other metals? The Vevor 12-Inch Shear could be the option you need, or you might find what you need on our list of bolt cutters. Do you want something you can hold in your hand to make the cuts? Then the Happybuy Hydraulic or the CCTI Portable Tool may be the route to go. If you need to bend rebar, not just cut it, the Steel Dragon RBC625 or one of our tube benders could be the answer. Knowing your specific needs before shopping will help you quickly narrow down your list of suitable choices.
