The 10 Best Truck Cab Lights

Updated August 02, 2020 by Brendon Hannaford

This wiki has been updated 12 times since it was first published in May of 2020. In many jurisdictions cab lights are a legal requirement for trucks of a certain width, but that's not the only reason it's a good idea to have them. A bright set of roof markers helps to indicate the size of your vehicle to oncoming cars, which keeps both you and the drivers around you safe in poor conditions. We've included a variety of models for different vehicles at various price points. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Cab Over America This company doesn't offer a variety of lights, but rather one particular set with a very uncommon feature. The claim to fame of Cab Over America's light kit is that it's completely wireless and requires no drilling for installation, which is achieved by giving each light its own solar panel. The kit is quite expensive, but it's still popular amongst many truck owners because it keeps their truck's exterior as as pristine as possible, prevents any risk of rust or leaking that can result from drilled holes, and can be removed entirely with no damage left behind in the case of resale. caboveramerica.com

Recon This well known manufacturer produces just about every type of light your truck could need, and all of their products feature high-quality enclosures and bright LEDs. Their catalog allows one to easily search for lights by the make and model of their vehicle, so they're a good option to consider if your goal is to find a drop-in replacement that will require minimal or nonexistent installation. Their kits are generally quite expensive, so you will have to consider what level of price and convenience you are looking for. gorecon.com

Atomic Custom LED Truck Lighting Atomic LED is an option worth considering if you're willing to pay the price for a complete high-grade kit. Not only does each light feature a durable enclosure and a bright set of LEDs, but all of the included bulb-sockets, connectors, and wires are also very well made. They even offer an LED flash controller so your cab lights can double as strobes, and these along with all of the other aforementioned components will most likely be much more reliable than those that are bundled with most inexpensive sets. atomicled.com

Editor's Notes

July 30, 2020:

While many of these sets are designed to directly replace the stock lights of certain makes or models with as little modification or labor as possible, almost any set will work if you're looking to install cab lights on a vehicle that doesn't yet have them. Most simply mount with a set of screws, however if you'd like to avoid any DIY electrical work or want to end up with the cleanest setup possible it's a good idea to find a professional that can install them for you. When considering a set for a new installation be sure to note what parts your particular selection includes in its package, as this will affect your overall costs depending on what other pieces you'll need to purchase. For instance, some lights have nothing but two small wires coming off of them and the rest is left up to you, whereas others might come with mounting screws, brackets, integrated LEDs, wiring, and a switch. While these complete kits are useful if you're just trying to find cheapest, easiest solution you can, but sometimes their included components are very poor in quality and will warrant replacement anyways.

Cab lights are a legal requirement for trucks of a certain size in many areas, however not every truck owner is enthusiastic about the look of a large orange bulb on their vehicle. If you feel this way you may want to consider selections with smoked lenses such as the Red Hound Auto Smoked Lens, NPAuto Roof Pack, and Yitamotor Universal Marker. The benefit of their darkened housings is that during the day they appear black, which easily fits in with many exterior and accent colors, but are still able to deliver the necessary level of brightness while driving at night.

If you're on the opposite end of the spectrum of pickup owners and care about absolute visibility more than a minimalist style, basic all-orange options like the CZC Auto ID Kit, Komia Cab Marker, and Partsam Amber Marker are all suitable options. It is important to note that the latter selection, while high in quality itself, does not come with any bulbs.

Those who are outfitting or replacing the lights of semi trucks rather than pickups should look at options like the Partsam Torpedo Marker and Partsam Chrome. These models are very large, and while they might look practically cartoonish on even a decently sized pickup they are perfectly at home on the roof of a tractor trailer, and provide the ample amount of light needed for these large vehicles.
