Editor's Notes

November 13, 2020:

For this update, we've added the new version of the Gamakatsu Octopus Pack, an excellent choice that comes from one of the best brands in the industry. We've replaced the Eagle Claw 139RQH with the Eagle Claw Bronze, a different design that gets higher ratings but is from the same American company. We've also added the Owner Mosquito Light, which reviewers love to use with live bait, and the Ucec Offset, a good choice for beginners and those who want a variety of sizes.

We've removed the Scimo 100 and the Sougayilang Snelled because their ratings have slipped down compared to similar products. We've also updated the information for several items, including the Mustad 3551 Classic, the Ice Sea Black Sport, and the Jshanmei Sport.

Finally, we've added a new listing under Special Honors that works like a charm with soft, plastic swimbaits.

It's important to realize that the "best" fishing hook will vary depending on what species you're targeting, as there isn't really a one-size-fits-all solution. To that end, we placed the greatest premium on versatility and resilience in our rankings, and our top selections should be suitable for just about any type of fish you come across (save maybe a great white shark or a blue whale).
