The Story of Christmas

In Depth

Taking some time to get cozy with a holiday-themed read can be a great way to de-stress and get into the Christmas spirit before the real festivities begin. If you're looking for something that pairs great with a cup of eggnog, here, in no particular order, are a few touching tales written by talented Christian authors.

In the #1 spot is "A Bleu Streak Christmas" by T.I. Lowe. Nothing can bring Bleu Streak down. This rag-tag band of rockers is about to go on tour to share their music with the world. Unfortunately, they're a total mess and are in desperate need of an assistant tour manager. Enter Izzy Walker, an accomplished woman who catches the eye of star drummer Maverick King in no time. Things between the two keep heating up on tour, until revelations of Mave's problematic past as a drug user threaten to cut their love story short.

For #2 we have Irene Onorato's "Christmas at Dumpster Corral." After her mother dies suddenly, Noel feels completely lost. Not knowing where or how to spend the holidays, she agrees to visit a friend down in Florida. But getting to safety isn't as easy as it looks. Some bad weather and a missed exit cause her to stray far from her intended destination. Lost and alone, she finds herself looking for a new beginning in the small town of Dumpster Corral, where the handsome lawyer Liam Grant makes her an offer she can't refuse.

At #3 is "Holiday Homecoming" by Carolyne Aarsen. At Heather Creek Farm, Charlotte is preparing for a peaceful, fun-filled holiday season with her family. All her plans fly out the window when Kevin, the errant father of her children, comes knocking. Kevin isn't just here for a friendly visit. He wants custody of the kids, and he's not going down without a fight. With so much happening at the farm, it's going to take a lot of holiday cheer to make sure this family gets through December intact.

#4 is "Tasha's Christmas Wish" by Sharon Dunn. A small hand-made doll business probably won't be a cash cow, but it just might be a great way to find love. When the dashing Dr. Philip enlists Tasha to make his daughter a one-of-a-kind gift, the entrepreneur soon finds herself fantasizing about the handsome, troubled man. Lucky for her, the feeling is mutual. There's just one problem: she lives in Montana, and he's all the way in Denver. The lovers will need a miracle if they want to overcome the odds and be together.

At #5 is "A Cliche Christmas" by Nicole Deese. Screenwriter Georgia knows a thing or two about happy endings. She's made her name writing heartwarming holiday tales for the big screen. When it comes to her own love life, however, things have reached a bit of an impasse. After getting roped into helping out with her hometown community theater pageant, she reunites with Weston James, her childhood crush and the one that got away. If Georgia can leave her Hollywood cynicism behind, maybe this time she'll get a shot at true love.

Coming in at #6 is Beth Wiseman's "Winter Kisses." The women of the Stoltzfus family are having a difficult holiday season. Naomi's mother and grandmother both became widows during the year. For her part, Naomi is still waiting to find out if her new suitor is truly the man of her dreams. An unexpected Christmas Eve blizzard is about to change all that. When the Stoltzfus women end up sheltering their prospective sweethearts during the great storm, they find themselves getting closer to a happy ending in unexpected ways.

For #7 we find "The Christmas Light" by Donna VanLiere. In the quaint town of Grandon, it's not always easy to escape past sorrows. Single parents Jennifer and Ryan are just trying to make it through the holidays without breaking down, while sixteen-year-old Kaylee is dealing with an unplanned pregnancy with the help of her married friends, Stephen and Lily. To put aside their troubles, the townsfolk decide to create a nativity play unlike anything the world has ever seen.

For #8 we get Jennie Goutet's "The Christmas Ruse." When Nicholas returns home to his beloved Cothill Manor to spend Christmas with family, he doesn't count on having the charming, mysterious Lavinia as a guest. The annual Cothill Ball is the stuff of legend, but for Lavinia, attending means giving up her freedom forever to enter into a marriage of convenience. It's up to Nicholas to save the captivating woman who's changed his life forever, and he only has until the stroke of midnight to do it.

Finally, at #9, is "A Honey of a Christmas" by Jessica R. Patch. This winter, Agnes has to do the impossible: create a perfect Santa's Village for the Honeyhaven Winter Wonderland celebration. If she doesn't do an amazing job, the town's tourist dollars are in for a serious dip. To make matters worse, her only helper is Tuck Renner, a surly construction worker who simply can't see eye-to-eye with her. Building the town's perfect holiday haven might drive them both insane, if it doesn't drive them into each other's arms.
