The right footstool is a small detail that can bring a room together and complete the desired look, by complementing, or contrasting with sofas and other furniture. Not only do they make seating more comfortable, but they can also be useful for a whole range of tasks around the home where an extra few inches of height is needed, such as reaching top shelves and cabinets. They can also be used as an occasional table or an extra seat when guests visit.

The footstools we considered for this review are all made from wood, and while some have cushioned tops, others do not. The Peaceful Classics Step Stool, the Liitrton Solid Wood, and the Antique Revival Thomas are all similar in design, made from quality hardwoods, and have a high weight capacity. They are a good choice if you are looking for something to regularly use as a step more than a place to rest your feet. similarly, the Jiodux Foldable has been designed with just this purpose in mind, and has anti-slip pads on the top and on the feet, and conveniently folds flat for storage. The Hare Krishna Small Footstool and the Frisby Decorative are also unupholstered, however, you may not want to stand on them as they have nicely finished woodwork and would be better used as a coffee table instead.

The others on the list are furnished with plush upholstery and cushioning, making them a better choice as an all-out footstool or an extra seat when needed.
